About the Winchester City Footfall Network

The Winchester City Footfall Network (WCFN) provides a service to retailers, the licensed trade, supply chain managers, marketing officers and local public authorities. It provides valuable information on patterns, trends, and topical changes in pedestrian movement within the City.

This information can tell us not only what is happening now and through time but also what effect special events, transport policy changes, the weather, roadworks and other factors may have on economic and civic life in the city. It also provides a way for those engaged in promotional activity to measure the success of their efforts.

The Footfall Network operates on the basis of a number of outdoor measuring points within the city. These are connected to the internet via landline or using GPRS wireless technology. Counts are taken from each of these gathering nodes and are displayed in these web pages in a number of ways.

The network is managed by Main Highway Services in association with the Winchester City Centre Partnership with the support and guidance of Hampshire County Council Transport Strategy Team.

If you are interested in knowing more about the network, please contact us.

Privacy Notice:
The WCFN does not detect individuals, our devices are not placed in such a way, or sensitive enough, to do so. It is not, and never will be, our intention to identify individuals for the purposes of footfall measurement.

Extensions to the Network:
There are opportunities for organisations to help extend the WCFN by offering to host a data gathering node on their premises. Our technology can also operate indoors to provide data specific to your organisation. To find out more contact us.

Our thanks go to the Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Centre Partnership without whom the development of the network would have been impossible.
