About the Winchester City Footfall Network Data

The data we collect takes the form of hourly counts from each of our data nodes. This data is collected on the Main Highway internet server 24 hours each day on 365 days throughout the year.

Our choice of presentation and analysis of the data has been developed in discussion with city centre retailers. The openly available data is provided as part of the membership package of Winchester City Centre Partnership. This baseline data presentation is deliberately kept simple, answering questions such as "how busy is it today?" or "are there more people in the city this week than last?".

As time goes by, we will also be displaying trend and comparison data which will provide a good picture of the performance of the city centre through the months of the year.

We are also planning a "relative load" measure which provides an at a glance view of the variance from the norm of pedestrians in various parts of the city centre.

As with all statistics, the ways in which data can be interpreted are numerous. More complex histories, analyses and reports are available on subscription or by special commission. To find out more about how these further services can support your business success, please contact us.
